On March 29-30, 2023, the Netherlands will co-host the second Summit for Democracy together with the governments of the United States, Costa Rica, the Republic of Korea, and the Republic of Zambia. As co-host for the broader European region, the Netherlands will organize an event on media freedom as a cornerstone of democracy on March 30.
In the run-up to the Summit, Urios (the Study Association for International and European Law in Utrecht) is organizing a Symposium on March 14, 2023 entitled “Democracy, Media Freedom, and Human Rights”.
During this Symposium, a speaker of the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands will be our special guest! In addition, speakers such as Professor of Human Rights Prof. dr. Antoine Buyse, and America-expert Willem Post will shed a light on this important topic. The evening will be hosted by Dr. Julie Fraser, Assistant Professor with the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights.
During a Q&A there is an opportunity to ask questions to all speakers. Good to know: the language of the Symposium will be English.
The evening will take place in the Academiegebouw, Zaal 1636 from 7 PM till 9 PM and afterwards there is the possibility to talk while enjoying a snack and a drink.
We hope to see you there!
