Pub Lecture: Human Rights in Venezuela

IMPORTANT: Sadly, due to the recent developments regarding the COVID-19 virus, our Pub Lecture will not be able to go ahead as scheduled. Therefore, registering is no longer possible. Interested in visiting the event and hearing about what David has to tell us? We will be trying to reschedule the Pub Lecture to somewhere later this year, so keep an eye out on our website and social media and join us then!

We are honored to welcome David Gómez Gamboa to Utrecht and are very interested to hear what he has to tell us about the human rights situation in Venezuala.

Since 2014, David has been the director of the NGO Aula Abierta and coordinator of the Human Rights Commissions of the University of Zulia (Venezuela), working on initiatives that promote and defend human rights in the university contexts, especially academic freedom, university autonomy and the right to quality education. Human rights NGOs in Venezuela face a climate of reprisals and retaliations from the government. The vulnerability of human rights defenders has been increased after different international advocacy actions before international human rights bodies of the United Nations (UN) and Inter-American System. David Gómez, on behalf of Aula Abierta, has participated in several public hearings between 2017 and 2019 before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), and also in several meetings and hearings before some United Nations Human Rights bodies and the Organization of American States (OAS).

NOTE: By registering for this event you agree to be present at the Pub Lecture. You agree that it is only possible to cancel in case of unforeseen circumstances and only before the 15th of March 12 PM. If you do not show up or cancel after the deadline you will have to pay the cancellation fee of €5,-.
