Introduction

Dear members and friends of Urios,

 My name is Lianne Blom and I am the secretary of the 29^th board of Urios. I am 21 years old and I am currently in my second year at the Utrecht University studying law. I first got in touch with this wonderful study association on the trip to Vienna in April last year and immediately liked the diversity of it’s members and the sociable though professional atmosphere. What better to do than to become part of that atmosphere!

One of my duties as a secretary is maintaining contact with the members so the coming year I will keep you posted on all the ins and outs going on within Urios and I hope you will all feel free to ask me any questions you have, share ideas about how to make Urios even better in the future and ofcourse meet with the board and the other members on our activities and the monthly members drink!

Clint Schmidt

 Dear Urios members,

 I would like to introduce myself, my name is Clint Schmidt and I was elected to be treasurer by the General Meeting on November 26. I really look forward to the coming year and I will do everything possible to continue to put Urios on the map.

It is a challenge for me to contribute to a successful policy for our great study association. I specifically applied for the position of treasurer, because I wanted to develop my skills in finance and in attracting sponsors, so we can organize more and better activities.

Besides working for Urios, I am also working on completing my bachelor degree. I am not quite sure what kind of a master I am going to do, but it is going to be either a business law master or a intellectual property master.

In the past I have followed a number of economic- and financial courses that can help me with the treasury function I have. I hope that I can contribute to make the association better as a whole and that me and the rest of the board can welcome many new members.

I am looking forward to the coming year, I will do everything in my power to make it a great year for Urios, for the board and for myself.

Dear members,
 

My name is Marleen van Maurik and I am the Activities commissioner of the 29th board of Urios. I am 22 years old and at this moment I am in the Master program of European Law at the UU and working on my thesis. Since the beginning of 2009 I have been a member of the activities committee, for which I helped to organise two study trips (to Vienna and to Paris) and several activities, such as the visit to the Chech Embassy and to the International Criminal Court in the Hague. For the upcoming year a very enthusiastic and competent committee has been established and together we will try to provide you with activities in the field of Public International Law, European Law and European business law. I hope to bring you a lot of new fun and inspiring activities and of course a very exciting study trip!

Alicia Schalkwijk

 Dear Members,

 My name is Alicia Schalkwijk and I am 24 years old. For the year 2009/ 2010 my function in the board of Urios is symposium commissioner. In 2008 I graduated in Private Law. After finishing this Master I have been in England for a few months. Previous year I have started with my second Master European Law and I am now occupied with my thesis. During my second master I joined the symposium commission of Urios. I found it an interesting and learn full experience to be part of this commission. Now, being a board member and the president of my own commission, I think a challenging and enjoyable time is waiting for me, which I am really looking forward to!

The theme of the symposium, which will take place on June 2, 2010 will be cybercrime. My goal is to set up a big symposium and invite interesting, important and famous speakers. I also would dedicate myself for making Urios still more known.

I hope to meet you during our activities and at the monthly members drink. Off course I would welcome you to visit our symposium in June!

Symposium Commissioner 2009-2010

 Jan Jippe Arends

 As probably most of you know, my name is Jan Jippe Arends, I am 22 years old and I am doing a master in Public International Law.

Since this is my second year as the Merkourios commissioner I am not that new to Urios. Actually I have been an active member for four years now. I started as one of the editors in the Merkourios committee when I was still a little boy. Next to this I was the first student from another University (Tilburg) to become an active member in Urios. After I graduated my bachelor I decided to move to Utrecht and to become a member of the Urios board. I had a wonderful year and I met really amazing people!

But why another year you may think?

Well, first of all because Urios is such wonderful association! Second, because we (the Merkourios committee) made huge leaps forward in the last couple of years and I am full of ambitions to continue with this process. Last year we made drastic changes in the lay-out of the Merkourios and we became the first Dutch student-led peer-reviewed Law Journal. Next to all of this we were published digitally on the major US online database Hein-Online.

In the upcoming year we want to take Merkourios to the next step in becoming a professional student-led peer reviewed law journal. In order to achieve this we will publish the best articles from all over the world. For example in our upcoming issue we will publish full academic articles from the University of Kiev, Graz, Florence and many more.

I think Urios will, again, have a wonderful year and I am already looking forward to the study-trips, member drinks, parties and of course the serious stuff!:)

Merkourios Commissioner 2009-2010

Functieomschrijving

Voorzitter: de voorzitter is hoofdverantwoordelijk voor het beleid van Urios. Intern zorg je ervoor dat medebestuursleden gemotiveerd zijn en een goed team vormen. Je bent bezig met sturen, coördineren, taken delegeren, controleren, helpen van jouw bestuur en zorgen dat ze alle faciliteiten (kunnen) benutten. De voorzitter leidt vergaderingen en stelt de agenda op. Extern houd je een oog op het grote plaatje en de toekomst van Urios en de naamsbekendheid. Hiertoe onderhoud je externe contacten en houd je je bezig met ledenwerving. Ook houd je je bezig met de 'sociale' activiteiten, zoals de commissiebedankdag en de Dies Natalis van Urios. Samen met de secretaris zorg je ervoor dat de website up to date wordt gehouden en er regelmatig een nieuwsbrief uitkomt. Leiderschapscapaciteiten en toegankelijkheid voor leden en externe contacten zijn belangrijke kwaliteiten voor een voorzitter.

Secretaris: de secretaris is de spil van elk bestuur en een representatieve duizendpoot met een verscheidenheid aan verantwoordelijkheden. Extern ben je primair verantwoordelijk voor het bijhouden van het ledenbestand en het onderhouden van contacten met de leden en andere partijen zoals mede-besturen. De secretaris zorgt ervoor dat de vereniging intern up to date blijft, te denken valt aan bijvoorbeeld de website, de mail en de post. Je bent daarnaast de rechterhand van de voorzitter en houdt de agenda van het bestuur bij. Andere taken waar je aan kunt denken bij een functie als secretaris zijn notuleren, het maken van nieuwsbrieven en organiseren van borrels e.d. Het behoeft geen nadere toelichting dat je als secretaris een afwisselende functie hebt die verantwoordelijkheid, organisatietalent en een onvermoeibaar enthousiasme vraagt.

Penningmeester: de penningmeester beheert de financiën van de vereniging. Zo regelt de penningmeester de financiën van studiereizen, en controleert hij of zij of de deelnemers wel hebben betaald. Verder is de penningmeester verantwoordelijk voor de inning van de contributie. Het is een functie waarbij een degelijke dosis verantwoordelijkheid komt kijken.

Activiteitencommissaris: de activiteitencommissie organiseert iedere maand een activiteit. Dit is bijvoorbeeld een lezing, debat of een excursie naar bijvoorbeeld Buitenlandse Zaken, het ICC of Europol. Verder wordt er twee keer per jaar een studiereis georganiseerd.. Een kleinere reis van vier dagen en een grotere reis die een week duurt. Dit jaar zijn Wenen en Parijs de reizen die de activiteitencommissaris organiseert met haar commissie. Een keer per jaar organiseer je een baneninformatiemarkt voor master internationaal- en Europees recht studenten. Als commissaris stuur je je commissieleden aan en ben je verantwoordelijk voor de georganiseerde activiteiten.

Merkourioscommissaris: de Merkourioscommissaris is hoofdredacteur van
ons tijdschrift, de "Utrecht Journal of International and European law".
Je schrijft auteurs aan, edit de ingestuurde artikelen en bent eindverantwoordelijk voor het 4 keer per jaar verschijnen van dit tijdschrift. Tevens hou je je bezig met sponsoring van het tijdschrift en stuur je je commissieleden aan.

Symposiumcommissaris: de symposiumcommissie organiseert het jaarlijkse symposium. Dit jaar vindt het symposium plaats op 2 juni. Het komende symposium gaat over cybercrime. De symposiumcommissaris schrijft sprekers en sponsoren aan en onderhoudt het contact met de sprekers en bedrijven. Verder promoot de symposiumcommissaris het symposium, regelt de zaal en de andere praktische kanten van het symposium. Daarnaast begeleidt en stuurt de symposiumcommissaris de commissieleden.
