Urios presents excursion to: The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thursday the 25th of March Urios will visit the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hague. We will receive a lecture from two specialists of the European Integration Department (DIE). The tasks of this department are seeking to ensure the consistency of Dutch national policy on the European Union and consulting with the other ministries at official level to coordinate the Dutch contribution to decision-making in the EU. This is your chance to find out what effect European Law has on the Dutch national policy and what its influence is in practice. Urios goes Rome From April 18th until April 23rd Urios is organizing a week-long study trip to the city of Rome! Home of the Colosseum, the Forum Romanum, the Trevi fountain and many more historical and cultural sights, Rome is also the city of many international organizations. During the study trip we will visit several international institutions, a.o. the FAO, the IDLO and World Food Programme, the Dutch Embassy in Rome and Vatican City and the University. Besides these visits there will of course be time to enjoy the beautiful city of Rome! The costs for the trip are €289,00 for members and €299,00 for non-members. Discussiebijeenkomst Commissie Davids Donderdag 25 februari Donderdag 25 februari organiseerde Urios in samenwerking met de universiteit een discussiebijeenkomst voor studenten. Het onderwerp was het rapport van de Commissie Davids en de vraag of de politieke steun van Nederland aan de VS en het VK strijdig was met het internationaal recht. De avond werd ingeleid door Nik de Boer, student van de master Legal Research, die zijn paper m.b.t. deze vraag presenteerde. Vervolgens kon de discussie beginnen, waaraan een groep van twintig studenten en vijf docenten en hoogleraren deelnamen. Hierbij kwamen verschillende aspecten aan bod, waaronder de vraag of de inval in Irak een ernstige schending van het jus cogens opleverde en het verschil tussen de legaliteit en legitimiteit met betrekking tot deze kwestie. Uiteindelijk leidde het debat tot een discussie over de relevantie van internationaal recht en de verhouding tussen recht en politiek. Na afloop vond er een borrel plaats met alle studenten en docenten. Het was weer een geslaagde en gezellige avond voor Urios en de universiteit! |
